Presentation Description:
Learn about the impacts of hunger on children’s health, learning, behavior and social-emotional well-being, its effects on seniors’ health and cognitive retention, and opportunities to build a foundation of nutrition support among all generations. Participants will learn about the latest research on the prevalence and impacts of hunger among our youngest and oldest residents, the public nutrition assistance programs can help mitigate the ill-effects of hunger, and specific community collaboration and coalition building outreach efforts that effectively leverage these programs to address food insecurity in local communities.

Speaker Bio:
Misha joined Hunger Solutions New York in 2003 and has focused on outreach and advocacy for several nutrition assistance programs benefiting older adults and children, including SNAP, SFSP, CACFP, and WIC. Her role has included building and maintaining new collaborations with related statewide, regional, and local partners to increase awareness of, support for and participation in the programs, since 2018, primarily WIC. She also works on public policy and legislative initiatives, both administratively and legislatively, and advocates to protect the integrity and expand the reach of WIC.
Misha has over 20 years of policy analysis, advocacy and outreach experience working with anti-hunger state and regional nonprofits in New Jersey and New York. She earned a bachelor's degree with high honors in psychology from The College of William and Mary and a master's degree in social work with a policy, administration and community practice concentration from Arizona State University and has supervised master of social work candidate interns from SUNY Albany for over a decade. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the WIC Association of NYS.
