2/15/2024 – NYSPHA sent a letter to the Senate and Assembly Health and Environmental Conservation Committee chairs urging them to restore critically needed funding for the NYS Children’s Environmental Health Centers (NYSCHECK) in the FY25-26 one-house budget bills.  Click here to read the letter.

2/15/2024 – NYSPHA joined 32 other New York-based organizations in signing on to a letter to New York legislators urging them to cosponsor a bill to close enforcement loopholes to end the youth e-cigarettes epidemic in New York State (S.8531, Hoylman-Sigal/ A.9110, Rosenthal) and to include it in their one-house budget bills.  Click <here> to read the letter.

2/14/2024 – NYSPHA signed onto a letter sponsored by the End Medical Debt Coalition to the Legislative leaders urging that they adopt and improve upon Governor Hochul’s proposed FY25 budget provisions reforming the State Hospital Financial Assistance Law by incorporating the following additional protections outlined in S.1366B|A.6027A (the Ounce of Prevention Act) and A.8170|S.7778 (the Stop SUNY Suing Act) into the one-house budget proposals. 2/9/2024 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter to NYS legislators sponsored by the Physicians’ Committee on Responsible Medicine in support of S996 (Hoylman-Sigal) / A3708 (Rajkumar) to ensure public schools in New York provide plant-based meal options upon request. Click <here> to read the letter.

1/19/2024 – NYSPHA signed onto a memo of support by the Climate and Resilience Education Task Force for Bill S278A/A1559A to establish a curriculum and learning expectations on climate education in all of New York State’s public elementary and secondary schools. 12/19/2023 NYSPHA signed on to a letter to the state budget director and health commissioner to take steps to close e-cigarette law enforcement loopholes. Click here to read the letter.

12/15/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter sponsored by the Lets Get Immunized NY campaign urging the Governor to prioritize immunization access and investment in the FY 2024-25 State Executive Budget. Proposes opt out for inclusion of adult immunization records instead of opt in.  Also includes funding for an immunization promotional campaign. Click here to read the letter.

12/13/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter to the Governor urging her to sign into law S.599-A (Salazar) same as A.1707-A (D. Rosenthal) to increase transparency around prescription drug prices. Click here to read the letter.

12/06/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter sponsored by the Feeding New York Campaign urging the Governor to support the Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) and Nourish New York (NNY) programs in the Executive Budget Proposal. Click here to read the letter.

11/30/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter sponsored by New York Renews to the Governor urging her to include $1 billion for climate justice in the Executive Budget for the FY 2024/2025 via the People’s Climate Justice Budget and the accompanying legislative initiative, the Climate, Jobs, and Justice Package (CJJP): the NY HEAT Act, Just Energy Transition Act, and Climate Change Superfund Act. 11/30/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter to the State Attorney General and the State Agriculture Commissioner urging them not to take an overly expansive position in a lawsuit with New York City that would limit the ability of counties and localities to address the climate, labor, health, safety, or animal-welfare consequences of agricultural production. 10/18/2023 - NYSPHA signed on to a letter urging the Governor to include provisions of the Green Transit, Green Jobs bill (A.6414/S.6089) in the SFY2024-25 proposed Executive Budget. Click here to read the letter. 

10/16/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter to the Governor sponsored by the Alliance for a Green Economy requesting she adopt policies and funding in the 2024 Executive Budget proposal the needed to put New York on the path to electrify 90% of buildings by 2050 while prioritizing the most vulnerable communities for healthy, affordable housing and energy, as well as good, green jobs. 9/29/2023 – NYSPHA PAC Intern Namita Kulkarni and PAC members Lucy Zheng, Kavitha Das and Gus Birkhead submitted written testimony to the New York City Council on 4 bills addressing clean indoor air in schools and other public buildings.  Click here to read the letter. 

9/26/2023 - NYSACHO signed on to a letter sponsored by NYSACHO to Chris Alexander, Executive Director New York State Office of Cannabis Management with comments on the  2024 Amendments to Part 114 of Title 9 - Cannabinoid Hemp Emergency Regulations.  Click here to read the letter. 

9/20/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter coordinated by AARP New York urging the Governor to sign S.4548 (Parker)/A.4876 (Solages) to employ data matching to ensure that eligible low-income New Yorkers are enrolled in utility benefits programs that they may not know about.  Click here to read the letter.

9/15/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter coordinated by the Sierra Club urging the Governor to support the state’s community gardens by signing S.629-A/A.4139-A into law.  Click here to read the letter.

 8/8/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a letter to the governor coordinated by the Renewable Heat Campaign requesting that she include the language of the NY HEAT Act into her next Executive Budget.  Click here to read the letter.

7/31/2023 – NYSPHA PAC members Andrea Sonenberg and Heather McGrane Minton provided comments to the New York State Department of Health opposing the wording in proposed Birth Center regulations that create barriers to the use of midwifery models of care, including midwife-owned birthing centers (MBC), which are crucial steps in addressing the issue of Maternity Care Deserts in New York State.  Click here to read the letter

 7/15/2023 – Gus Birkhead signed on behalf of NYSPHA onto a health expert letter to Governor Hochul to eliminate harmful and unnecessary uses of neonicotinoid pesticides in New York State specifically by signing the Birds and Bees Protection Act A7640/ S1856 A into law.  Click here to read the letter.

7/13/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a partner letter to NYC Mayor Adams urging him to support banning the sale of menthol cigarettes. Click here to read the letter.

7/10/2023 – NYSPHA signed on to a partner letter sponsored by NYSACHO to the NYS Cannabis Management Office containing submitting comments on the updated Adult Use Cannabis regulations, especially about labeling and packaging not being attractive to kids, being considered for adoption.  Click here to read the letter.
